After a hiatus of about a year and a half, the Sundog ride will once again be an official North Florida Bicycle Club Ride.

In the spirit of the original Sundogs (John Crocker, Randy Raybon, Bill and Linda Donovan, Layne Wallace, JR Slaughter, Ro Kieran, Steve Burtchell and others), the ride will be a friendly and welcoming ride to all club members.  In the spirit of the North Florida Bicycle Club, it will also be bound by the club rules.  From either perspective, safety, fun and promotion of bicycling are the primary objectives of the ride.

  • The ride will split into 2 or more groups based on speed and number of riders
  • This is a no drop ride.  An experienced rider familiar with the route will be appointed for the ride, so no one gets left behind
  • After the ride, we will plan on going to lunch to one of the several area restaurants.  If you have the time and the inclination, please feel free to join
  • Since we go over the Atlantic and Wonderwood bridges, each group will regroup after each of the bridges.  There will be a rest stop at a gas station about 14 miles into the ride (near Monument and Mount Pleasant).  In summer, we may add another rest stop later in the ride.

This ride leaves Russell Park, Atlantic Beach at 9AM makes a quick jaunt north along the beach before heading west and north to Fort Caroline. From that point the ride heads east along Wonderwood and up to Mayport before heading back to Atlantic Beach.  The ride offers a great mixture of fast and slow sections. There are stops along the way where everyone regroups.  The riders often eat together after the ride.
