SAFETY on the AZALEA 100 mile ride
Jonathan Tomassetti

While riding on the Azalea 100 route today take note:

The intersection of County Road 214 and the Palatka Trail is dangerous due to a dip in the highway slightly north of the trail.  Cars in the dip can't be seen by cyclists and cyclists can't be seen by cars.

FROM LEN BURROUGHS: “In Keystone Heights proper, County Road 214 and the trail is where we were hit. There is a low place in CR 214 just north of this junction. This dip is where the car was out of site that hit Fred and me. We were east bound on the trail and stopped at the stop sign just west of the junction but not right at the road crossing. This was our mistake. Stop at the road crossing and you will be fine. This road junction is just east of the Hwy 21 junction with the trail in a area called Lake Geneva.”

A CAR TRAVELING 55MPH COVERS 80 FEET in 1 SECOND.
Do not depends on another rider's "All Clear". Stop and check for yourself.
