I'd like to (re)start a ride I've heard NFBC has done in the past. I live in the San Marco area and I think it'd be cool for folks to meet at the square on the weekend and ride up Tallyrand to Trout Creek then come back. This is about 20mi from Balis park in San Marco but you can easily make it 30mi+ if you loop down to Baymeadows via San Jose after finishing the Tallyrand leg. I would like the pacing to be "A" (18-21 mph) as that's typically what I average on it with a pace line but if there's significant interest other pace lines could participate at whatever speeds they are comfortable with.
From my conversations with newer cyclists, Tallyrand is something of a little known gem. Though there can be some odd industrial smells at times, the road is constructed to accommodate far more traffic than is ever on it. It is designed this way because it gets a lot of traffic when a ship comes to the ports connected to it but that happens extremely early in the morning. Personally, I've never actually seen the fabled shipping caravans of semi trucks that line up. I probably see fewer than 20 cars per hour of riding and it is a 4 lane road (truly paradise).
I am new to NFBC but I ride Tallyrand weekly (often I'm the Strava local legend for it) and I know the roads of downtown Jacksonville well. I am not sure what other qualifications or training leading a ride for NFBC entails but I'm willing to work on whatever I may lack. Thanks for considering this.
