July 2018 President’s Message

Dear Fellow Members and Friends,

The Endless Summer Watermelon RideSM is a mere two months away and we are ramping up for a great ride. The routes are now up on the registration page. Just scroll down to the Route Options section. This year, the 53, 73, and 100-mile riders will have the option of taking the trails in Little and Big Talbot Island State Parks or the Fast and Furious track along A1A. There may be some small tweaks to the routes as we finalize rest stop locations. Updates will be promptly posted to the registration page.

We have changed this year’s swag from a T-shirt to a Special Edition NFBC sock. Register before August 21st to reserve your size. As we made the change to socks after a few people had already registered, we will be contacting them via email to choose a sock size.

There is still time to order your Endless Summer Watermelon Ride jersey. Order by July 29th to have the jersey delivered to your home before the ride.

We have received a grant again this year from the Amelia Island Convention and Visitors Bureau to market the ride. We will be targeting cyclists from across the southeast to come for the ride and stay for the weekend. We have just finished filming a video. which we hope to have running within the next couple of weeks. Many thanks to Mike Pikula, Susan and Don Taylor, Cheryl Richardson, Gus Reinwald, Ken Wilson, and Tony Koziol for help in the filming.

We need your help in putting on a successful Endless Summer Watermelon Ride. While we need a core of people on Sunday to staff the rest stops and the venue, there are many volunteer positions where you can help and still do the ride. We need volunteers to load the truck at the storage locker or stuff goodie bags on Friday, plant signs, set up the venue, help with registration, and drive a truck on Saturday, and help with parking before the ride and pick up signs and unload the truck at the locker and pick up signs after the ride. Go to the Volunteer page to review the positions and to sign up. If you have any questions about volunteering or need more information, contact Jade Stanley at Volunteers do not need to be club members. Ask your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers if they can help us out and direct them to the Volunteer page.

On July 15th join us on our annual ride to remember LCDR Jim Warmowski and other cyclists killed and injured on the roads in northeast Florida. The ride begins in Fleming Island and goes down to the memorial site in Green Cove Springs where we will hold a brief ceremony. On August 5th the Sundogs will host the annual Cheeseburger in Paradise Ride and Picnic at the Vilano Beach Pavilion. Ride from 23 to 50 miles along the ocean and then enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, and camaraderie with other club members.

I welcome your input. Please email me at with your thoughts.

Looking forward to seeing you on the road.
